Spentence is a personal expense and budgeting app. This policy explains what information the app handles, why, and what control you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate; if anything is unclear, please ask us and we will explain it.
Spentence is operated by the Spentence team ("we", "us"). For any privacy question, including requests to access or delete your data, contact us through the Contact us option in the app's Settings screen, or by email at softsense.info@gmail.com.
Transactions, categories, budgets, savings goals and recurring payments that you record. This information is written to a database on your device. If you are not signed in, it never leaves your device.
If you create an account, we process your email address, your display name and, where you sign in with Google or Apple, the identifier those providers give us. Authentication is handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see or store your password.
When the app communicates with our servers we receive the request itself, which includes your account identifier and the time of the request. If you enable notifications we store a device token so reminders can be delivered. If the app crashes, a diagnostic report is sent to Google Crashlytics.
The app uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand, in aggregate, how Spentence is used: which screens are opened, which features are used (for example "a transaction was added" or "the Premium screen was shown"), the app version, device model, operating system and approximate country. These events never contain the content of your records — no amounts, notes, categories you created, names or email addresses. We do not use the advertising ID and do not use this data for advertising. If you are signed in, events are linked to a random account identifier, not to your email. Our website uses Google Analytics in the same way to count visits.
When you use the contact form we receive your name, email address, the message you write, and the app version and platform you are using. This is used solely to answer you.

Spentence can turn a sentence such as "spent 12 on coffee" into a transaction. For most users this happens entirely on the device: no text leaves the phone.
Subscribers may have entries interpreted by a language model running on our server, which improves accuracy for less predictable phrasing. In that case the sentence you typed, your category names and your currency are sent to our server and passed to our model provider solely to produce the structured result. The text is not used to train any model, and neither we nor the provider retain it beyond what is required to serve the request. If you would rather this never happened, the on-device parser remains available and is used automatically whenever you are offline.
Receipt scanning is performed entirely on your device using on-device text recognition. Photographs of receipts are never uploaded.
We use a small number of established providers to operate the service. They process data on our instructions only:
We do not sell personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.
Records synced to your account are stored on our servers for as long as your account exists. Data on your device remains until you delete it or uninstall the app. Support messages are kept for up to two years so we have context if you contact us again. Crash reports are retained according to Google's Crashlytics retention schedule.
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS). On our servers, the content of your records — amounts, notes, category, goal and bill names — as well as your name, email address and support messages are additionally encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM, so a copy of the database alone does not reveal them. Access to synced data is authorised per account: a request can only ever read or write the records belonging to the account that made it. We keep provider credentials on the server and never inside the app. No system is perfectly secure, so we also recommend protecting your device with a passcode or biometric lock.
Spentence is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will remove it.
If we make a material change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app. Continuing to use Spentence after a change means you accept the revised policy.
Use Settings → Contact us in the app, or email softsense.info@gmail.com. We aim to respond within two working days.
